Audrain County Title Company began in the year 1887 when the firm of Ricketts and Whitney Abstract Company was formed. In 1919 the company was restructured and incorporated as Audrain County Abstract Company. In 1970 the Company was purchased by James E. Heim, who retained ownership until his death on January 29, 2009. Ownership today remains in the Heim family.
In 1971 the company's name was changed to Landmark Title and Guaranty Company but operated under the provisions of the Fictitious Name Act as Audrain County Abstract Company, a name more familiar to its clientele. In 2004 in an effort to better reflect its current products and services the fictitious name was changed to Audrain County Title Company. Although name changes have occurred, the underlying philosophy of the Company remains the same - hard work, integrity and a focus on the customer.
Audrain County Title owns and maintains a complete title plant, the only such plant in the County. The plant records consist of all real estate recordings from 1837 to the present date, indexed geographically; copies of all recorded subdivision plats, indexed geographically and by subdivision name and a computer index of all Probate and Circuit Court Cases dating from 1973. The company has access to Federal and State tax liens, access to all Audrain County real estate tax records, and a full set of aerial photographs for Audrain County. Information contained within the plant is invaluable, giving the Company an advantage of both speed and accuracy.
Audrain County Title is an active member of the Missouri Land Title Association, the American Land Title Association, the Mexico Area Chamber of Commerce, the Mexico Village Square Association, and is an affiliate member of the Heart of Missouri Board of Realtors, the Missouri Association of Realtors and the National Association of Realtors.
